2026 ASTSWMO Annual Meeting
The Association of State and Territorial Solid Waste Management Officials (ASTSWMO) is pleased to invite State and Territorial (State) Brownfields, Hazardous Waste, Materials Management, Superfund, and Tanks programs’ members, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Headquarters and Regional staff, Department of Defense (DoD) and other Federal Agency officials, and other partners to the October 29-30, 2026, ASTSWMO Annual Meeting in Arlington, VA.
This Meeting is an in-person event.
Meeting Agenda
The meeting theme is “Safety”, with a focus on:
- Right of Entry – Procedures and protocols for safely entering restricted or hazardous areas, ensuring compliance with safety regulations and minimizing risk to personnel.
- De-Escalation – Techniques for managing potentially volatile situations calmly and effectively, reducing the likelihood of injury or conflict.
- Overview of State Safety Programs – A broad look at state-level safety initiatives, resources, and frameworks available to organizations and individuals.

Meeting Registration
ASTSWMO will not have on-site registration at the Annual Meeting. There is no meeting registration fee. All attendees, including speakers, must register for the meeting. The last day to register with ASTSWMO is:
· For ASTSWMO members requesting reimbursement: September 14th, 2026.
· For attendees not requesting reimbursement: October 2nd, 2026.
ASTSWMO also reserves the right to close registration early if capacity is reached prior to October 2nd, 2026.
A confirmation of registration e-mail will be forwarded to you upon receipt of your completed registration form by Eventbrite.
For State members requesting reimbursement: A confirmation of reimbursement will be sent separately by ASTSWMO staff starting September 21st and by October 2ndPlease do not make any travel arrangements before you receive the reimbursement confirmation from ASTSWMO staff.

Reimbursement Opportunities
ASTSWMO funding is limited for each Program and is not allocated by State/Territory (State).
As a result, ASTSWMO may not be able to provide reimbursement to every State within each Program. At this time, Federal Facilities funding is not currently available; however, ASTSWMO may receive such funding in the future. Additional information will be provided if funding becomes available.
If you are the Voting Member for your State, you will be eligible to receive reimbursement separately from any Program funding.
Reimbursement Requirements
State attendees seeking ASTSWMO funding must request reimbursement at the time of meeting registration. Reimbursement eligibility must be approved and confirmed by ASTSWMO staff before attendees make travel arrangements.
Key Dates
- Reimbursement requests must be submitted to ASTSWMO by September 14, 2026.
- Applicants placed on the waitlist will be notified by ASTSWMO by October 2, 2026.
Key Reminder
ASTSWMO recommends that States determine which staff members will travel using ASTSWMO funding before completing registration – reminder that travel arrangement can be completed once approved for reimbursement.
Hotel Reservations
The 2026 ASTSWMO Annual Meeting will be held at Renaissance in Arlington, VA. The hotel website is located here.
ASTSWMO has reserved a block of sleeping rooms at the contracted rate of $287 per night plus taxes and fees of 14.25%.
Room reservations will be accepted through October 05, 2026.

Travel
Airports
The closest airport is National Airport (DCA).
The distance from the airport to the hotel is about ~1 mile.
Depending on time of day and traffic, the trip to and from the airport will typically take around 3-5 minutes.
The hotel has a complimentary airport shuttle.
Driving a Personal or State Vehicle
If driving to the meeting using a personal or State vehicle, please review ASTSWMO’s Travel Policy and submit ASTSWMO Special Travel Request documentation as required for prior ASTSWMO approval no later than October 14th, 2026.

The Association of State and Territorial Solid Waste Management Officials (ASTSWMO) has identified the opportunity to allow limited sponsorship opportunities as a way to further the work of the organization. The term sponsorship is understood to mean financial or other rewards received from non-governmental organizations with the intent to fund a particular activity or function of the organization.
