CERCLA and Brownfields Symposium: State-EPA Roundtable
Co-moderated by: Gary King (IL), Chair, CERCLA and Brownfields Research Center Subcommittee; Jim Woolford (EPA), Director, Office of Superfund Remediation and Technology Innovation; David Lloyd (EPA), Director, Office of Brownfields and Land Revitalization; Ed Chu (EPA), Director, Center for Program Analysis; Elliott Gilberg (EPA), Deputy Director, Office of Site Remediation Enforcement; and Gilberto "Tito" Irizarry (EPA), Director, Program Operations & Coordination Division, Office of Emergency Management.

In addition to updates provided by EPA staff re: regulatory issues of concern to States, this session is designed to provide State attendees with an opportunity to discuss specific issues of concern with their regulatory partners at EPA. Among the topics to be explored are:

  • Dialogue with State members re: PFOA/PFOS presentation
  • Draft EPA MOA Process Memo
  • State concerns re: municipal liability associated with involuntary acquisition of contaminated properties
  • Highlights from OEM, to include: Institutional Controls at removal action sites, and EPA-State coordination on drug lab cleanups

Solid Waste Session: New Tools for the Solid Waste Tool Box
Moderated by:  Brian Tormey (IA), Chair, Solid Waste Subcommittee

This session will discuss three decision support tools that have been developed or are under development by EPA's Office of Research and Development (ORD) for use by solid waste managers: the new Disaster Debris Management Decision Support Tool, and its landfill facility database; the MSW Decision Support Tool; and a proposed decision support tool for the management of fly ash and other coal combustion residues, which includes beneficial use and disposal.

Joint Sustainability & CERCLA and Brownfields Subcommittee Sessions: State and EPA Progress Towards Greener Cleanups
Co-moderated by: Gary King (IL), Chair, CERCLA and Brownfields Research Center, and Jennifer Kaduck (GA), Chair, Sustainability Subcommittee

These two joint sessions will focus on practical applications of green cleanup concepts at remediation sites to inform future regulatory decisions. Following the presentations will be a facilitated discussion with all attendees, with the objective of prioritizing future State and EPA efforts towards implementing greener cleanup policies and practices. 

Solid Waste Roundtable
Co-moderated by Brian Tormey (IA) Chair, Solid Waste Subcommittee, and Thea McManus, (EPA/OSW), Acting Director, Municipal and Industrial Solid Waste Division

The Roundtable during this time slot will focus on topics that EPA will take the lead in presenting.  The second time slot, which will also include EPA participation, will turn to a discussion of State issues identified for State information-sharing.
